Early Pregnancy Symptoms And Tips To Get Through Your First Trimester
Pregnancy symptoms may be different for everyone. Some symptoms may be felt by some, while others may not feel (or notice) pregnancy symptoms and not know they're pregnant until they actually take a pregnancy test. Read on for early pregnancy symptoms and helpful tips to get you through your first trimester of pregnancy.
Pregnancy Symptoms
- Missed Period. A missed period is a big indicator that you may be pregnant. If you're over a week late, you can take a pregnancy test to be sure. If your period varies quite a bit, wait another week before taking a test.
- Nausea. Nausea or actual vomiting in the early morning (or possibly throughout the entire day) can be a pregnancy symptom. Some feel nausea throughout their entire pregnancy, while others may only feel it throughout the first trimester. It can make brushing your teeth or eating breakfast (and sometimes throughout the day) difficult.
- Breast Tenderness. Breast tenderness may occur while ovulating or during your period, but it can also occur when you're pregnant as well. Your breasts may feel tender or even swollen.
- Fatigue. You may feel excessively tired, even needing to nap throughout the day when you normally would not. Lack of sleep during the night may also be a symptom of pregnancy. You may notice that you are tossing and turning throughout the night and feel uncomfortable.
These are just a few of the more common early symptoms of pregnancy. You may also feel cold symptoms, headaches, sensitivity to smell, extreme hunger, increased urination or even mood swings.
Tips To Get Through Your First Trimester
The first trimester of pregnancy is usually one of the hardest, as morning sickness and some of the symptoms mentioned above may take a lot out of you. Eating properly and staying hydrated will help.
- If you have morning sickness, be sure to keep crackers on you to help control nausea. Eat crackers, such as Saltines that are dry and don't have a lot of flavor to them. Keep some in your car, purse or at your desk at work.
- Try to brush your teeth without as much toothpaste for awhile to help you brush without getting so nauseous that it causes you to throw up.
- Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables to help keep you hydrated and to ensure you are getting enough nutrients in your body for you and your baby. A suggestion is to blend them into smoothies.
- Take naps if you feel exhausted, and take time for yourself. You're going to need your rest, so take it if you can.
- Start taking a multivitamin or a prenatal vitamin to also ensure you are getting the vitamins and minerals, as well as iron, your body is going to need throughout your pregnancy. Pregnancy can take a lot out of your body and wreak havoc on your bones and teeth. The vitamins will help replenish this.
If you have noticed any of the early pregnancy symptoms above and you have missed your period, take a pregnancy test. Do so first thing in the morning with your first urination of the day to get the most accurate results. If you are pregnant, make an appointment with a physician specializing in obstetric care for a blood test to be sure.
